Stress is the body’s reaction to changes that requires an adjustment. The body can react mentally, physically and emotionally. Even though stress seems bad, it is a normal part of life. Stress is mostly caused by work with all of the tasks that need to be made, some specific due dates assignment must be completed, the pressure of getting good grades (in school) etc. Feeling stressed acts on your body by having deep emotions such as anger, having trouble sleeping, having thoughts of constant worry, depression or anxiety etc.
Depression looks different in people of different ages. Older Adults have less obvious symptoms of depression and are less likely to admit feelings of sadness and grief. Additional diseases are also likely to contribute to depression.Younger children may pretend to be sick, cling to a parent or act out.Teens and young adults may have behavioural issues and mood swings. They may also have symptoms of other disorders, such as anxiety or eating disorders.
There are different types of stress triggers for every age (adults, teenagers). Some common stresses in life can be the loss of a dear one which can have a large impact on someone’s life and if the person who passed away was an important part of their life, they might be stressed thinking about how they’re going to live without them. Another cause might be loss of a job or increase in financial obligations which might stress the person and they might start over thinking and make rash decisions which will furthermore have a negative impact on their life. Some other more common causes might be moving to a new place or getting married which happens quite often. Stressed people are often quite sensitive to big changes and it also has a larger impact on their life. Some more serious causes might be suffering from a serious illness or having emotional problems such as depression and anxiety. Having an illness can stress a person in multiple ways, one of them being them thinking how long they’re going to live and worrying constantly about the state of mind and what others also think of them. The last cause may be suffering through a traumatic event such as theft, some type of violence etc. This can scar a person emotionally and mentally for life, sometimes the stress people feel for it is endless.
Stress can cause minor health issues such as triggering headaches and heartburn. It also leads to risk of depression which is another harmful disorder. It also weakens your immune system, making you more prone to heart attacks and high blood pressure. It also effects the male and female reproductive system which can make it harder for conceiving. Stress also increases your breathing and tensed muscles.
Even though stress seems bad for people, it helps them accomplish their tasks more efficiently. Stress can sometimes even boost your memories. This means that it isn't a bad thing at all to feel a bit stressed from time to time. But if the situation gets very bad (starts feeling very anxious and depressed) you should call out for support (your parents, teachers, therapists). If somebody feels very stressed, we encourage you to come to them, try to relax them and ask them what stresses them. If the situation is bad, you can offer them your support to seek professional help (therapist for example).
